Dengeki! Pikachu was published in English as The Electric Tale of Pikachu by Viz Media, first in sampler editions included with home video releases of Pokemon, then as sixteen monthly issues, from November 1998 to February 2000 and, finally, in four volumes, from September 5, 1999 to August 10, 2000. The manga is loosely based on Indigo League and Adventures on the Orange Islands of Pokémon the Series: The Beginning Note: The manga was edited and censored by VIZ in its English release, since its original content was found too "offensive" by the American public and was made more "kid-friendly".

Values MAVIN. Unlike the games or anime, Ash finds this Pikachu chewing on the electrical wiring in his house, and keeps it as his first Pokémon when he qualifies to be a trainer. The first volume, The Electric Tale of Pikachu!, was released on September 5, 1999
